Supported Independent Living (SIL) is an NDIS-funded support category that allows people with disability to live in shared homes with 24/7 on-site support. SIL funding pays for the cost of support workers — not rent or accommodation — and is included in a participant’s NDIS plan when they need regular daily living assistance.
What SIL is not: SIL is not aged care, and it is not temporary or crisis accommodation. It is not a hospital or clinical setting. It is a long-term home — chosen by the participant, suited to their goals.
Who it is for: SIL is designed for NDIS participants who need regular daily living support — such as personal care, medication management, meal preparation, and community participation — in a safe, supported home environment with other compatible housemates.
